Designed by Gustave Eiffel and built between 1887 and 1889, the Eiffel tower was inaugurated on March 31st 1889.
324 metres high, it has since become the symbol of the French capital, and welcomes around 7 million visitors each year.
It supports a large number of antennae for radio and TV transmission.

arc-de-triompheArc de Triomphe

Inaugurated on July 30th 1836, the Arc de Triomphe (triumphal arch) is a national monument measuring 50 metres high by 45 metres wide.
From its summit, visitors can admire the Louvre palace and the Place de la Concorde on one side, and the Arche de la Défense (a modern arch in the La Défense business district) on the other.
It was built at the behest of Napoleon, in honour of the French armies.
The names of the most famous French military victories are carved into it , along with the 666 Revolution and Empire war generals.
The French victims of the « great war » are represented by the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, under the Arch.

louvreThe Louvre museum

The Louvre museum, former home to French Kings, is the largest Paris in musuem, with 35 000 works of art and 60600 m2 devoted to their display.
It enables visitors to admire the different collections, : Ancient Far East, Egypt, Greece and Rome, Paintings, Sculptures, Islamic arts, Graphic arts and Middle Age graphic arts to 1848…

notre dameNotre Dame cathedral

Notre Dame is one of the most admired examples of gothic architecture in France and indeed in Europe.
Built between the 12th and 14th century, its visitors admire its 69 metre high,towers, its stained glass windows (some dating back to the middle ages) and of course its gargoyles...

La coulée verte

« La coulée verte », or the planted prom, spans the 12the arrondissement de Paris, and is 4.5 km long.
It begins at the Bastille opera house and ends in the Vincennes woods, having passed by the Reuilly gardens and the allée Vivaldi ...
The Arts viaduct, built in 1859 houses arts and crafts workshops.
This walkway combines wild vegetation and a more modern landscaping approach.

Le train bleu (The blue train restaurant)

This 2nd Empire, Baroque and Belle époque style restaurant (circa 1890) is located within the Gare de Lyon .
Some of its contents are classed as historical monuments, and its Tarte Tatin certainly should be !

Bercy park

This is located between the Bercy sports hall and Bercy Village.
14 hectares makes it one of the largest parks in Paris.
It contains three gardens :
•    The romantic garden, with its ponds and dunes
•    The bedding garden, containing educational vegetable gardens, bushes and flowers
•    The prairies, with large lawn areas, trees, and a skate park for skateboard or roller fans.

The « jardin des plantes » and the « galerie de l’évolution »

The jardin des plantes (literally plant garden) contains 11 gardens, including the alpine garden, the botanic garden, the ecological garden …
This space brings together a multitude of evolving plant species.
The alpine garden displays plants that live at high, medium and low altitudes in France and throughout the world.
The ‘galerie de l’évolution’ (evolution gallery) enables visitors to see thousands of animal specimens in a fantasy decor.
